Okay confession time … I am TERRIFIED of clipping my daughter’s nails, so much so that I avoid it at all costs. I have asked my other mommy friends, some suggest biting, others filing, or even ripping but none of that has worked for me. The only way I can seem to get her nails any shorter is by actually using nail clippers, but every time I have to clip her nails I am on the verge of a panic attack.
You see, I was doing so good, I had all the confidence in the world, but then her thumb got in the way . . . There was blood (A’s), and tears (both of us), and a huge amount of guilt (mine). I thought, What kind of mom cuts their daughter with nail clippers? I hadn’t felt so bad since the great nasal aspirator debacle of 2011, but that is a story for another day . . .
I know this is silly and irrational, but I can’t shake it . . . So for tonight we have made it through, her nails are clipped, we are both still have all of our appendages intact . . . But I wait in fearful anticipation of the next time probably only 2-3 days from now that we meet once again with the nail clippers.
